I received the news of Afzal Guru being hanged through a SMS of my cousin. It did not make me happy but it brought a sigh of relief- Justice Delayed but not denied. Capital punishment is not a happy thing to talk about and I hate the whole process of a person being executed by a group of people at the behest of orders given by the State. In plain words- this is a murder and it can’t be justified even if the whole legal process has been followed rigorously. If we can’t produce life, we can’t take it away too- that goes the argument against it.
But, what punishment can be meted out to these beasts that mindlessly kill people and without making any discrimination. Kasab inadvertently fired at anything and everything that came in his way. During attack on Gujarat’s Akshardham temple – terrorists killed even small children without flinching. Are they human beings when they perform this act- NO, they have lost all their humanity and they are nothing more than wild animals! So, what is our dharma if some wild animal has entered our home and killing our children with no mercy? As our scriptures tell us – शठे शाठ्यम समाचरेत (Do unto others as they to you- दुष्ट के साथ दुष्टता का व्यवहार उचित है |).
No mercy is required for these perpetrators of terrorism. Though, it is a very painful process to kill someone but what option do we have to stop such acts in future. As a State, we need to show a tough stance on terror and that can be demonstrated only through speedy trials and such no-nonsense approach. So, the death of anybody can’t be celebrated but celebration is definitely due to those martyrs who laid down their life fighting for the country. जय हिन्द !!!!
